  4. Fixed bug where .styk files were showing with the same icon as the .stykz files (Windows only). [1279]

Figure Manipulation

  1. Fixed bug where right-clicking and dragging to create a segment and then releasing the mouse over a palette would generate an error. [1278]

  3. Fixed bug where you couldn't see the nodes of a figure that had a subselection when switching to the PolyFill tool (so you couldn't create a polyfill). NOTE: A byproduct of this is that when you have a subselection and switch to another tool, the figure(s) that own the subselection(s) get selected. [1271]
  4. Fixed bug where you could not select or change the properties of more than one polyfill at a time.
  5. Fixed bug where creating a polyfill in a figure that already had one would create it (and draw the red connector line) *behind* the existing polyfill(s).

  7. Fixed bug where imported .stk figures would not have the nodes float in front. [1258]
  8. Fixed bug that allowed you to stretch a circle so that it was smaller than its line thickness, giving you a strange "inside-out" appearance.
  9. NEW: If you are in the middle of creating a polyfill, you can Option/Alt-click on a node that was part of the polyfill-in-progress and that node will be removed from the polyfill. A note about that was also added to the tool instructions that display when you are creating a polyfll. [1276]
  10. Fixed bug where you could create a single drag node by right-clicking on the stage with the Subselect tool. [1287]
  11. Fixed bug where Command-clicking on a node with the Select tool would deselect the figure, even if your intention was to stretch the node.
  12. Fixed bug where deleting the last segment of a figure with the Subselect tool would leave a single node behind. [1317]
  13. Fixed bug where attempting to change the angle of a subselected segment in a rotated figure would cause odd behavior (the "dancing stickman" problem). [1318]
  14. Fixed bug where dragging a circle from one point to another would cause it to shrink to its smallest size even if you don't have any modifier keys down (the "circle shrink" problem). [1298]
  15. Fixed bug where changing the length of a circle on a figure at an angle causes the head to spin. [1311]
  16. Fixed bug where clicking on the stage while in the middle of making a polyfill brought up an error dialog. [1302]
  17. Fixed bug where adding a node to a figure that had multiple polyfills would cause some polyfills to 'snap' to the wrong nodes when the figure was manipulated. [1312]
  18. Fixed bug where right-clicking on the Stage when the PolyFill tool was active would create odd results. [1303]
  19. Fixed bug where the cursor would not change to the new "polyfilling" cursor when hovering over a node before you start creating a polyfill. [1326]
  20. Fixed bug where right-clicking on the stage to start a figure, but then releasing it would properly delete the node, but would leave the Properties palette reading "Figure Properties" instead of "Stage Properties". [1337]
  21. Fixed bug where if a figure with hidden and/or static segments was currently selected, switching to the subselect or polyfill tool would not show the same thing as switching to the add line or add circle tools. [1338]
  22. Fixed bug where using the arrow keys to move a selected figure would disconnect the nodes from the figure. [1352]
  23. Fixed bug where the selection rectangle would go over the menu bar on Windows. [1301]
  24. Fixed bug where adding a node with the Subselect tool when a figure had previously been selected with the Select tool would cause the new node (and its parent) to be colored blue instead of red. [1357]
  25. Fixed bug where adding a node to a figure with multiple polyfills would sometimes mess up the polyfills. [1374]
  26. Fixed bug where using the circle tool and creating a very small circle would cause the line width to be larger than what should be allowed. [1371]
  27. Fixed bug where drag-copying a segment to another figure when one of them was scaled would cause the new segment to 'pop' to a new size when the receiving figure was rotated. [1366]
  28. Fixed bug where creating a new segment or circle off of an existing segment that had a color would cause the new segment to draw black until the mouse was released. [1365]
  29. Fixed bug where canceling the adding of a line or circle with the Add Line or Add Circle tools would leave a single drag node behind. [1364]
  30. Fixed bug where you could crash Stykz if you created a segment with too many successive children ("generations"). Note that the maximum number of generations is 75 (which should be more than sufficient). [1373]
  31. Fixed bug where static segments would remain gray after clicking on the stage with the SubSelect tool. [1378]
  32. Fixed bug where newly drawn figures in a document that had Show Antialiasing turned off would still show the lines as antialiased. [1380]
  33. Fixed bug where the Enter key when used while dragging wouldn't let you keep dragging to create frames. [1394]
  34. Fixed bug where static nodes would still show when selecting another figure with the subselect tool. [1410]
  35. Fixed bug where creating a new segment from a segment that was already selected would create it in red and flash back to black. [1409]
  36. Fixed bug where being in the middle of polyfilling and clicking on any of the palettes would leave the polyfill in a weird state. [1404]
  37. Fixed bug where being in the middle of polyfilling and hitting the Enter key would go to the next frame, but leave the polyfill in a weird state.

Import/Export

  1. NEW: Added ability to drag .stk and .styk files directly from the desktop onto an open document.

  3. Modified 'Export Frame' so that it wouldn't switch you out of Edit Mode, but still allows you to export in Edit or Preview modes. [1320]
  4. Fixed bug where you got an error trying to export to QuickTime. [1291]
  5. Fixed bug (hopefully) where some Windows users would receive error dialogs when trying to import a Pivot 3 .stk file. [1321]
  6. Fixed bug where the "Explain" button in the "Incompatibility Detected" dialog (displayed when you import a Pivot .stk that has incompatible circle metrics) did nothing when you clicked it. [1329]

  13. Added additional error checking to .stk file import.

Menus

  1. Fixed bug where cutting/copying and pasting multiple figures would not retain the layering order when pasted. [1285]

  3. Fixed bug where trying to do a File->Save As on the "blank document" selected in the Welcome Center would generate an error. [1342]
  4. Fixed bug where opening an "open" or "save" dialog while the backdrop was displayed (in Windows) would not restore the palettes properly when the dialog closed. [1331]

  2. Changed behavior of palette window so they do not automatically hide when you switch applications. (This was done for two reasons: (1) It makes it easier to drag .styk files into the Library palette, and (2) it makes it consistent with Windows/Linux.)

Use the key with the "<" on it to go back one frame, and the key with the ">" on it to go forward one frame. Use of the Shift key is option (e.g. "," is the same as "<" (Shift-,) and "." is the same as ">" Shift-.)). Note that typing ">" on the last frame of an animation will NOT create a new frame; to do that you need to hit the Enter key. [1282]
  15. Fixed bug where the frames would show the images in the wrong sizes, or with "static" lines on the image. [1264]
  16. Fixed bug where it was possible to delete the only frame of a document using the "Delete Frame" button. [1310]

  39. Fixed bug where you could enter an insanely large number when changing the width/height of the stage and get an error. [1316]
  40. Fixed bug where resizing the height of the stage to 10 pixels would give you a warning dialog. [1344]
  41. Fixed bug where changing the width of a hidden line while in Subselect and then switching to the Select tool would change the thickness of all the lines in the figure. [1295]
  42. Fixed bug where changing a value and tabbing out of a field would apply the property *twice*, thus requiring two Undos instead of one.
  43. Fixed bug where subselecting a circle that was opaque and turning off the "Opaque" checkbox and then subselecting another circle that was opaque would leave you unable to select a fill color. [1361]

  54. Fixed bug that could cause an error dialog to appear when using the Add Line or Add Circle tools if the tool instructions were being displayed.
  55. Fixed bug where clicking on a node with the polyfill tool in a saved document would beep and act as if you were clicking on another figure. [1400]

  6. Fixed bug where creating new figures with the node size set to anything else other than "Normal" would first create the line with normal sized nodes, and then afterwards it would "snap" to the selected node size. Now it operates seamlessly. [1238]
  7. Fixed bug where hitting the Enter key while creating a segment with right-click-and-drag would generate an error. [1239]

Palettes

  1. Properties Palette

  3. Fixed bug where the current document would not re-activate after clicking the lock icon (which would prevent you from moving or deleting a figure after you unlock it).

Preferences

  1. Fixed bug where color selection for selected/unselected nodes didn't apply to the color outline on static nodes (they still showed blue/red regardless of the color you picked).

Stykz 1.0 RC 4 - Build 204 (Mac/Windows)

Release Notes

Released on 12/13/2009

General

  1. Stykz now uses the operating system's cursor in all places where the black arrow was being used. This includes over the menu bar area, which previously showed whatever tool you currently had. [1157]
  2. Fixed bug in file format conversion code that didn't catch everything. (Note: This will require all docs before this release to undergo file format conversion again.) [1132]
  3. Styks will now try to keep the selection you had on the previous frame when you click the "Next Frame" button or hit the Enter key.
  4. Fixed bug where default fill color for polyfills was not a websafe color.
  5. Fixed bug that caused a "This is not a Stykz document" window to appear when double-clicking a .stykz file on Snow Leopard.
  6. Fixed bug where double-clicking a .stykz file would launch Stykz but would not reopen any palettes you had open. [1227]
  7. NEW: Added "How to Install" PDF doc with the Optional Styks folder.
  8. NEW: Added new Welcome Center which lets you open a recent document, open a blank doc, get help, link to tutorials, etc. [1165][1025]

Export

  1. GIF export has been modified to be compatible with other applications (including Flash, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Picture Viewer, etc.) as well as being much smaller in size.
  2. Fixed bug where 100%-size exported GIFs were exporting 23 pixels higher than the Stage size was set for. [1225]
  3. Fixed bug where you were unable to cancel a Quicktime Movie export. [1237]

Figure Manipulation

  1. NEW: Added the ability to remove nodes from a polyfill while you are creating it (click the same node again). [1136]
  2. Fixed bug where instructions were not moving out of the way when creating a polyfill.[1135]
  3. Fixed bug where static/hidden lines show with the Select tool. [1126]
  4. Fixed perceived bug where adding a node between two nodes that were attached to a polyfill would cause the polyfill to look like it connected to the wrong nodes. [1095]
  5. Made polyfills more "intelligent"; if you add a node to a figure where the "parent" and "child" of the node you added is part of a polyfill, the new node you added becomes part of the polyfill. [1095]
  6. Fixed bug where deleting a node attached to a polyfill would adjust the polyfill. [1145]
  7. Fixed bug where deleting a node with the subselect tool caused an error. [1129]
  8. NEW: Added ability to create figures with right-click-and-drag while using the Subelect tool.
  9. Fixed bug where Alt- (or Option-) Right-clicking on the Stage and dragging would show a drag node that would disappear when the mouse was released. [1128]
  10. Fixed bug where pivoting segments with the Subselect tool would not update the thumbnail of the frame in the Frames palette properly or make the document as "dirty".
  11. Improved performance in selecting segments with the Subselect tool.
  12. Fixed bug where you could only distort a circle on only one side of it (you'd get an alert dialog telling you that circles can't be distorted if you tried the other side). Circles can now be distorted on both sides. [1150]
  13. Fixed crashing bug when holding down the mouse with the subselect tool (not moving) and then releasing and trying to click on another object. [1130]
  14. Fixed crashing bug when double-right-clicking with the subselect tool. [1131]
  15. Fixed bug where using the AddLine or AddCircle tool and clicking on an onionskin would produce a notification window telling you that you can't create a figure. [1181]
  16. Fixed bug where clicking on a polyfill wouldn't display static and hidden segments like clicking on a segment would. [1209]
  17. Fixed bug where double-clicking on the drag node to switch tools from Select to Subselect would leave the figure selected even though the nodes weren't red. [1200]
  18. Fixed bug where attempting to use the arrow keys when a polyfill was selected would display an error dialog. [1208]
  19. Fixed bug where right-clicking on a node after having right-clicked on a segment would display a dropdown menu instead of drawing out a new segment. [1228]
  20. Increased performance on "drag figure/enter key"" frame creation process.
  21. NEW: Added ability to dramatically increase performance on "drag figure/enter key" frame creation process by holding down the Control key when hitting Enter; this prevents the Frames Palette slot from updating (which is what the delay is). When you are all done, click on one of the visible frame slots and they will all redraw with the correct thumbnails.

Menus

  1. Fixed bug where context menu wasn't displaying a "Delete" option when right-clicking on a polyfill with the Subselect tool. [1146]
  2. Fixed bug where attempting to export an animation on Windows when QuickTime is not installed gives you an error after the alert dialog.
  3. Fixed bug where double-clicking on a .styk file that was already in your Library would cause problems. Stykz now gives you an alert if you try to do this. [1152]
  4. NEW: Added "Open Recent" to the File menu to allow for opening the last 20 recent documents.
  5. Fixed bug where you would get two "confirm file replace" dialog boxes if you exported your animation and entered the extension after the name of the animation, and a file of that name already existed. [1162]
  6. Fixed rare bug that could have prevented the saving of changes made to Frame 1 of an animation.
  7. Fixed bug where saving a document would appear to deselect figures on the current frame. [1163]
  8. NEW: Added support for directly opening .styk and .stk files. [1156]
  9. Fixed bug where (on Windows) right-clicking on a segment to display a context menu would not let you right-click and drag on a node afterwards to create a new segment; instead you got another dropdown menu as if you were right-clicking on a segment instead of a node. [1169]
  10. Fixed bug where the "Delete" option was not available when you had multiple segments selected and your right-clicked to display the context menu. [1168]
  11. Fixed bug where switching "Show Nodes in Front" when a figure had static nodes would end up showing them instead of keeping them hidden.
  12. Fixed bug where Ctrl-X would exit Stykz instead of do Cut. [1193]
  13. Fixed bug where Ctrl-, would not display the Preferences window on Windows. [1201]
  14. Fixed bug where the Preferences menu item wasn't available with any tool other than Select. [1203]

  10. Properties Palette
  11. Modified interface so that mixed selections would show as mixed and not as just the value of the first selected object in a group. Fields with mixed selections display as empty; checkboxes show a dash (Mac) or filled-in square (Win); color swatches show a diagonal slash through them. [1140]
  12. Modified interface so that web colors are on by default for each new Stykz session. [1154]
  13. NEW: Added ability to lock a figure so that it you can't modify it in any way.

  5. Fixed bug where the main Stage window would not be active after finishing playback. [1198, 1234]
