Using the Hints Window

The Hints window is designed to give you a hand with the things that you can do with the tools in the Tools Palette. To show the Hints window, select Help > Show Hints from the menubar. Doing this will display the Hints window for the currently selected tool (in the example below, this is for the Select tool, the first tool in the Tools Palette).

As you switch tools, the Hints window will update accordingly:

The Hints window will also adjust automatically based on the current operating system; this is how the Subselect Tool hints looks like on Windows 7:

Working With the Hints Window

The Hints window is translucent, so it shows the items on the Stage that are underneath it:

You can also move the window anywhere you like; when the mouse moves onto the window (anywhere but over the close box in the upper-right corner), the cursor changes to a cross-hairs, and you can click and drag the window.

To dismiss the Hints window, either choose Help > Hide Hints from the menubar, or click the close box:
