Need More Input on Poll: Do you Float or Layer Nodes?

Due to some of the recent bug reports, I'm rethinking how I'm going to be managing the layering of nodes (programming-wise, that is). It would help a lot to know just how everyone prefers to layer the nodes. There are two options available at the moment:

• "Floating" - Show the nodes floating in front of all of the segments (represented by a checkmark next to the View > Show Nodes in Front menu and the preference setting Edit* > Preferences > Nodes/Segments > Node Options > Show nodes > In front of all segments)
  
  
• "Layered" - Show the nodes in the same layers as the segments they are associated with (represented by NO checkmark next to the View > Show Nodes in Front menu and the preference setting Edit* > Preferences > Nodes/Segments > Node Options > Show nodes > In layers with segments

Keeping this in mind, please take the poll and let me know how you use this feature.

For me, it's the last option. But I seriously did not know we had this feature.

I guess I don't abuse this setting, sometimes when I make an animation that involves giving that effect of having an object between the hands of the figure I make a separate figure/arm. wouldn't it be best to also get info from DD community?

I've known this existed for a while, but never really knew what it was for. Even though I know what it does now, I always leave 'em floating on little invisible hoverboards.

Floating, although I CAN see the usefulness of layering.

Absolutely, or I wouldn't have asked!

I could go into technical details, but the bottom line is that Stykz can be made more optimized (both in performance and in size of files saved on disk) if the layered nodes option wasn't used (or wasn't used that much). And since I'm in "bug fix/optimize" mode, knowing how floating/layering is being used will help direct what I work on next.

I really only used layering once, and that was because I had so many nodes that they were all clustered together.
