I honestly don't think Stykz will ever fully fulfill the role Pivot has. When people think of stickfigure animation, Pivot comes to mind first. And for many people, Pivot has enough features to not need extensions. For others, Pivot is much too limiting.
I think there are real reasons and that they literally cannot be overcome

Pivot had the advantage of being the first of its kind (AFAIK), and so it quickly gained a lot of traction and use. Those that prefer Pivot over Stykz generally are long-time Pivot users, used to its limitations and have either worked around them or don't feel like they want to learn something new, regardless of the similarities between Stykz and Pivot. Plus there are "die hards", that wouldn't change even if it was in their best interest... :-)

There are a couple of things that I know of that are holding Stykz back from being used by more Pivot users: it's not as stable as Pivot, it doesn't import Pivot 3 .stks yet, and some tried-and-true inter/advanced "hacks" that are used with Pivot (such as the "transparency grid") don't work with Stykz.

I don't expect Stykz to completely replace Pivot, but I *do* hope that eventually most Pivot users will use Stykz as often as they use Pivot.

The transparency grid does actually work on Stykz. Take a look at my tutorial: http://www.stykz.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1569

Yeah, but not the same way it does in pivot.

The only difference is that the lines have to be horizontal instead of vertical.
