Forum Chat Box on Index Page

People go on the IRC every once in a while. Although hydra, darc, and I were trying to use windows live messenger, but it did work but seemed to fail and the mac version isn't as advanced as the windows version. I think we should use yahoo chat. We could use yahoo or google chat instead of the chat box for the moment, what do you think?

I don't think theres a way to have group conversations in Yahoo. I never knew there WAS a google chat. But I suggest all Windows users gets Windows Live Messenger :D

What about it? I have gMail, but I never have or probably ever will use it. It's too different to Hotmail for my liking.

Yahoo messenger is better for everyone, because it supports windows, mac and linux unlike WLM which only supports windows and mac. Also getting a yahoo account is easier than an windows live id. Using an IM client would be better for non-stykz stuff and you can chat to a person individually.

The IMing is just for the interim until we get a chatbox on the stykz forum. I only suggested yahoo chat because of the reasons stated in my post. I do not know if gMail chat is multiplatform with linux.

In my opinion, going to the IRC URL is easier than having to set up a chat with yahoo or whatev everytime we chat.

I agree with that. I've set up a chatbox over on TAG (the avatar gallery), and it has EVERYTHING needed. Free, moderation, can control flood limit, it seriously has like 54984123 different options and on top of that (I think) it's open source.

Try AJAX chat. It integrates with your forum's css and moderation ranks so mods on the forums are mod on there, admins on the forums are admins on there... etc. It's easily scripted(using Javascript and PHP), and works well with phpbb3(I use it personally).

Sorry to be rude, but every site with a xat chatbox usually ends up failing. The fact is, they're extremely stupid. They default to annoying noises, they're not scriptable, you have to pay to use half of the features, it's just weird, it doesn't integrate with your chat... et cetera.
