How should the Properties palette apply changes for Width/Scale/Length/Angle fields?

CLOSED: POLL: Properties Palette - Applying Changes

Postby stykzman on Wed Jul 29, 2009 11:15 am

As I'm working on fixes for the next release, I found out that Build 191 of RC3 was released with a bug in it as it relates to typing into the fields on the Properties Palette to change the Width/Scale/Angle of a figure or the Width/Length/Angle of a selected segment.

On Windows, changes are applied as you type; on Mac, you need to hit Tab/Enter/Return or click somewhere else to have them applied. This was a bug, but since I've had a handful of people who don't type very fast complain that the insertion point in the field moves and they get the wrong value (like they type "5" then "1" and if they're not fast enough it shows "15" instead of "51"). While I can certainly fix the insertion point issue, my question is: Which approach is better?

(Sorry for the rush, but I wanted to get a new build of Stykz out tonight or tomorrow morning, so I'm going to factor in feedback only from today through the release time.)

PS: I have noticed this on Windows too.

I'd go with the second option because I have a slow laptop, and it would freeze for a sec when it had to load each time I typed.

Sometimes when I want to make something 90 pixels long, I accidentally typed an extra digit at the back (sometimes two :D) making it lag for a while before it extends. So, I'll go with the second choice.

Yeah, sometimes I hit an extra number.

E.g.:
I'm going to type 400
*types 4000*
Lag :C
