Well, I've tried it one night, then gone on to something else, then eventually turned the computer off, then come back the next day, turned the computer on, tried opening it again, failed again, given up. Would that count as rebooting? And I just tried it again then, when I posted that picture yesterday and the computer was turned off overnight. But I've never tried, rebooted, then tried again on the same day.

Yeah, that counted as a reboot. It looks like you have 1GB or RAM; what flavor of Windows are you running, and on what kind of PC? Also, did you have a lot of .styks in your Library palette?

It definitely looks like a memory-related issue, but pinning it down is another thing entirely.

Okay, I'm running Windows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1 on a Hewlett-Packard a6130a Desktop computer [Desktop is the one that isn't Laptop right?] with a Genuine Intel(R) CPU and 1.00 GB of RAM. It's a 32-bit Operating System. Hopefully that's enough help in that department. On the Library palette, well, hmm, I think I added all the numbers to the library, and I'm not sure whether or not I added all the letters. Wait, here we go, according to the appdata folder I have 28 items in my library. I didn't add the letters.

Well, everything looks pretty good, although Vista is a bit of a memory hog... even though Microsoft says you only need 512MB of RAM to run Vista, I've personally found that 1GB is a minimum, and this article on Slashdot implies that even more is needed to hit Vista's "sweet spot".

But I'm *sure* there are others that are running Vista with 1GB of RAM and not experiencing the problems you're experiencing. (BTW: If anyone reading this has Vista Home and 1GB of RAM, please chime in with your experiences.)

I mean I can understand Stykz being slow without enough memory, but not launching? Is it possible you don't have much space left on your hard drive? I mean Windows will expand the "swap file" space that it uses when it needs more RAM and it can't get it from the actual RAM chips. And if there's not enough space on the hard drive to increase the swap file, you can get into freeze/crash situations.

Other than that, I'm at a bit of a loss. BTW: Was Stykz launching/working OK before RC 1?

Stykz Beta 1 and 2 were working fine, but Beta 3 crashing was the reason I started this bug topic. Release Candidate 1 was set to come out soon though so I wasn't too worried, I just hoped this same problem wouldn't occur with Release 1. Unfortunately it did. My hard drive is 140GB total, but the space available changes dramatically daily. Vista keeps making these restore points that are, like, 1GB each, but currently my available space is 66.6GB. I also have a 149GB external hard-drive with 137GB free, and Stykz won't run off that either. As I recall, though this probably won't make much difference, our computer didn't always have so much RAM. I think it was about November last year [way before I had even heard of Stykz] that my dad got some extra RAM installed. Like I said, probably makes no difference. I think I'll post a short vid on YouTube showing what happens when I try launching Stykz. I'll update here when it's done.

I just compared your specs you posted on your Vista machine with my Vista laptop that also has 1GB of RAM. Here's how we compare:

ItemYour ComputerMy Computer
ComputerHewlett-Packard a6130a (Desktop)Gateway MT3418 (Laptop)
Operating SystemWindows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1Windows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1
Physical Memory (MB)
   Total1014957
   Cached595480
   Free122
Kernel Memory (MB)
   Total169105
   Paged11867
   Nonpaged5137
System
   Handles2569420871
   Threads920711
   Processes6962
   Page File1014M / 2293M904M / 2180M

This comparison is based on cold restarts, so they should be comparable. You can see that your computer does a little bit more than mine does, but yet you can't launch Stykz and I can.

I did verify that there were memory requirements increases from Stykz Beta 1 through RC 1 (the "Mem Usage" column in the Task Manager was 28,116 K for Beta 1, and 31,436 K for RC 1), but that's not too significant given that most apps on my system average around 30,000 K anyway, and some go WAY more than that.

I'm kinda stumped... Anyone have any other suggestions?

Well, I've recorded a short video of the problem. Here it is on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NLN91LdG7Y
I strongly suggest you watch it in Full Screen Mode, as YouTube stuffed the video a little and it's blurry without full screen. It probably won't solve any problems, but it makes me feel a little better knowing that you guys have a better idea of the problem.

BTW I'm considering re-installing Beta 2 so I can at least use Stykz a little, even if it doesn't have all the new stuff I've read about here but not even been able to see. I still have the installer for Beta 2 anyways, so I might as well put it to use.

Okay, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to bump my own bug topic so massively, but I felt like I had to inform you's all that I just installed RC2 and it, unfortunately:

Well, I'm afraid to tell you this, but....
A) You gotta get a new computer
B) You need a different OS like Mac OS X(or reinstall the old one) If you can't get a mac, wait until stykz for linux comes out. Then you can get ubuntu or something.
C) YOU NEED TO SUE BILL GATES!
D)All of the above
