Re: First animation with Stykz

It's still a tad stiff in the back, but it's an improvement.

And it's really choppy.. What framerate do you use?

Kk, thx for merging. I will check the rules again to see if there is anything else I missed.

EDIT:
GuitarMangler wrote:What framerate do you use?

Can't quite remember what I set it to. I don't quite understand the framerate thing, suggestions? I'll edit the anim. It doesn't end up choppy when I watch it though. I am using chrome FYI.
But another question, when you say the back is too stiff. Typically the back doesn't move much at all when a person is walking. I don't want to move every segment randomly and just end up having it shaky instead of smooth. When you move a segment it must have direction. I DID move the back segments slightly just to reduce stiffness, but the only way I can think of that would realistically allow me to move them more would be to have the back very slightly bobbing side to side/up and down. Is that what you think I should do? Personally I think that the back in the animation is good and I don't want to screw with it anymore. If your opinion still stands please tell me more specifically on what I should do about it or send me an example of what you think is a good walking loop.
I might edit the head a little though, I think it is shaky and misdirected now that I look at it again.

To be honest, I disagree with what GM said about stiffness. It isn't a necessity to move all the joints at a time, usually during a walking cycle, I move all the arms and legs each frame, and it helps to move the head a pixel or two some, but the back joints don't need to move every frame to make it look good, it really just makes it look unrealistic. I liked it, but I think you should animate your sticks with feet, it makes it look better in my opinion. And about your frame rate, I recommend using 18 right now, that's what I do, and when I export the .gif I put the delay to 6.

Actually I believe it does. He told me what part I had missed. I agreed. Not that complicated dude.

I agree. Good comment. I have been thinking about whether I should add feet or not, your vote quenches it. However about the frame rate, now I am confused. I didn't know that the delay and frame rate is different. I know where to set the frame delay but where is it that I change the frame rate?

Hm, your animations don't look like they were sent out at that frame delay, because it feels like each frame is staying a little too long. I don't know. Otherwise, the frame-rate is what you actually play the animation .stykz file. You change it in the "Controller" window (if it isn't there then click on the Windows tab up top, check all the rows). You also set the animation to loop there along with a few other functions. To set it to a permanent frame rate, do this:
Edit > Preferences > Speed and Timing. You can set the frame-rate and the .gif export frame delay. If you just got Stykz, there are tons of little ueful things in the preferences.

No.. It doesn't make any sense. If you know that you are double posting why do you still do it?
