Wow, that's depressing.

But if you couldn't tell I was going for a flimsy cartoon look, And the pivot 2 default only has one back-bone joint, making stiffness inevitable.

that's when you do alt+clicking onto middle of the line segment to make a back joint.

How'd you get it to look all blocky? and if it was an explosion it should have some more effects. Like splatter or something.

Not really an explosion, more like a look into another dimension.

It looks like a small explosion, but needs more colour. It also looks a little like this:
